Let’s Meditate Together

Let’s Meditate Together

Yoga’s roots can be traced back over 5,000 years. Early forms of the practice mostly emphasized meditation and spiritual rituals, but this changed around the 11th Century CE, when Hatha Yoga emerged with its focus on physical postures and breathing techniques (amongst other things). The purpose of the physical practice (what we think of as yoga today) was to condition yogis’ bodies so that they could sit in meditation for hours at a time (!) without aches and pains disturbing their focus.

With this in mind, we’ve decided to start a meditation group as a way to support our community. We’re starting small and will be iterating as we go along, but here’s what we’re thinking:

*A 10-15 minute weekly meditation. Short and sweet (but powerful) to make it easier to carve out the time.
*Start with a small group: 10 - 15 maximum.
*Meet on Zoom with cameras off.
*Sundays at 8pm EDT, but are open to changing it based on feedback.

Our goal is to help our community learn to access the peace and steadiness that lies within, and to hopefully inspire more of you to meditate and do breathwork - forms of self care that are always accessible and cost nothing!

We’ll try out different techniques, skewing towards beginners. No matter how experienced or inexperienced you are, we promise you’ll feel better at the end than you did when you started.

Meditating with a group is powerful! Both studies and anecdotal evidence point to the benefits of groups meditating together. The late director David Lynch believed that enough people meditating together could bring about world peace
